Local Musicians Attract Fans
Two highly creative musicians, Tim and Steven Scroggs, were guitar students of Johnnys in the late 90's as teens and more recently in the last couple of years have taken some music theory courses. They, like friend Matt Shanor (see Matt Shanor "Student Spotlight") grew up playing in church under the leadership of their dad and pastor Steve Scroggs who provided a forum for youth to 'arise and serve' in their home church Mountain Vintage Fellowship (Arden, NC).
Playing together on the worship team they grew in their talents and took turns leading corporate church worship. As they matured Steven had an opportunity to lead worship at a church in South Carolina and moved to serve there. During the years Steven was there, Tim stayed at the home church and developed a youth band that played for their own youth ministry. This grew into having other outreach opportunities to play and lead worship especially as Tim began to write his own faith inspired songs and released his first CD project "Fill Up Your Lamps".
As years went by Tim began to create a unique style of acoustic driven 'crossover' music taking his tunes to the street literally with a band he put together called "Redstreet", playing the downtown Asheville music scene including the Haywood Street Stage at Bele Chere Festival a few years ago. Shortly thereafter, Steven moved back to Asheville and the two brothers decided to link up with their musical endeavors. This led to working with an Atlanta based producer who put them in the studio to co-write some songs with a new sound. Out of this came the EP release in January 2009 with their new band "The Enemy Lovers".
With the addition of cousin Kent on drums and bassist (former members of the band "Monday Morning") they have been playing at premier Asheville clubs such as The Orange Peel and The Grey Eagle. In also have been playing in the Charlotte area and even chartered a bus for Asheville fans to go down there for one of the gigs. Just last week they were back in the recording studio working on some new songs that will certainly thrill their growing fan base. Everyone that has attended one of their concerts finds an excitement about the music and message as frontman Tim brings it home to the faithful!
